DAILY UPDATE ➳ i entered an instagram rep search

                          August 8th, 2018
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
good afternoon! i decided to enter another rep search because i love the look of these candles + the entire aesthetic of the company. so, hello! my name is kippen and i’m an 18 year old book blogger and amateur artist. i’m from the US but I miss Canada every day. I’m specifically fond of fantasy books but I’ll fall in love with a coming of age novel on occasion. Some of my favorite books are The Raven Boys, The Kite Runner, Into the Wild, and Fangirl. As for my love for candles, I love anything that reminds me of home aka balsam cedar, fire, and pumpkin spice. ♡ not to mention, The Raven Boys would match all of these scents perfectly. as someone who’s been blogging for years and just recently starting taking bookstagram seriously, being a rep would totally motivate me to step up my game. i have so many ideas for creative photos and would love to include these candles within them. ♡ a quick mention that any of these photos will probably be transferred over to my blog (uponthepages.com) as most of my instagram posts get transferred over as life updates.

as for what i've done today, i've just been taking pictures for my blog + instagram. i went for a walk with my dog earlier and i'll probably read some more tonight. not a busy day!

Book Recommendations Based on Marvel Characters

hello! i’m in that stage where i’ve recently re watched all my favorite marvel movies and infinity war so I don’t know what to do with myself. I haven’t been updating my blog lately and this idea came to mind so i’m like…why not? I obviously won’t be doing every single character from the MCU so don’t attack me. Also, please don’t be mad if you’re favorite character ends up with a book you don’t like! I’m trying my best :-)

p.s. this is based on the MCU!! not the comics :-)

LIFE UPDATE ➳ booktubeathon is over and i failed

August 7th, 2018

booktubeathon has ended and i totally failed but that’s okay! i originally planned to read 3 books but ended up finishing one. i really enjoyed What If It’s Us and i’m glad to say I’ve finished it and will be putting up a review for it soon! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
i’m not doing much today because of how insanely hot it is in Florida but i am working on my blog. I've scheduled a bunch of posts and wrote my review for What If It's Us. It'll be going up September 20th, 2018! Be sure to look out for that. It'll go on my blog first + then it'll be uploaded to Goodreads. I went out to my favorite coffee shop with my friend Julia and chatted for a while. I've been super stressed lately about job hunting and school coming up but it was nice to just chill out for a bit.

A girl tries to outrun her demons in this searing, universal novel about the impact of gun violence, everyday sexism, rape culture, and internalizing—and overcoming—guilt from National Book Award finalist Deb Caletti. When everything has been taken from you, what else is there to do but run?So that’s what Annabelle does—she runs from Seattle to Washington, DC, through mountain passes and suburban landscapes, from long lonely roads to college towns. She’s not ready to think about the whyyet, just the how—muscles burning, heart pumping, feet pounding the earth. But no matter how hard she tries, she can’t outrun the tragedy from the past year, or the person—The Taker—that haunts her.Followed by Grandpa Ed in his RV and backed by her brother and two friends (her self-appointed publicity team), Annabelle becomes a reluctant activist as people connect her journey to the trauma from her past. Her cross-country run gains media attention and she is cheered on as she crosses state borders, and is even thrown a block party and given gifts. The support would be nice, if Annabelle could escape the guilt and the shame from what happened back home. They say it isn’t her fault, but she can’t feel the truth of that.Through welcome and unwelcome distractions, she just keeps running, to the destination that awaits her. There, she’ll finally face what lies behind her—the miles and love and loss…and what is to come.❞

life update ➳ a personal spa day

august 3rd, 2018

good evening! today i've spent the day in bed because i woke up at 2pm... lol don't judge. i decided half way through the day of watching youtube videos and petting my dog that i'd make my own spa day. so here's that! after showering, i put my fav bath & body works lotion all over with an Olay lotion for moisturizing. i used tons of lush products after this so be prepared lol. i love using the Lush pink peppermint foot lotion and then wearing socks because it genuinely makes your feet so soft and this foot lotion is oddly my favorite scent of all time. but anyways, onto skin care!
skin care has always been such a big routine in my life because it's so relaxing and i have very red acne prone skin. i wouldn't usually do two face masks but tonight i did just to treat myself. i did the mask of magnaminty face mask and then the fomo face mask. i'm aware the magnaminty isn't the best for red skin but the fomo with rose probably evens my skin out afterwards. i went onto to do the rest of my skin care which is long and complicated so i don't feel like typing it all out. i just had a very chill & calming day tbh it was nice :-)

Books Set in the 1940s

  • The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
❝It’s just a small story really, about among other things: a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery …

Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak’s groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist – books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement before he is marched to Dachau. This is an unforgettable story about the ability of books to feed the soul.❞
  • Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys
❝Lina is just like any other fifteen-year-old Lithuanian girl in 1941. She paints, she draws, she gets crushes on boys. Until one night when Soviet officers barge into her home, tearing her family from the comfortable life they’ve known. Separated from her father, forced onto a crowded and dirty train car, Lina, her mother, and her young brother slowly make their way north, crossing the Arctic Circle, to a work camp in the coldest reaches of Siberia. Here they are forced, under Stalin’s orders, to dig for beets and fight for their lives under the cruelest of conditions.❞

Lina finds solace in her art, meticulously–and at great risk–documenting events by drawing, hoping these messages will make their way to her father’s prison camp to let him know they are still alive. It is a long and harrowing journey, spanning years and covering 6,500 miles, but it is through incredible strength, love, and hope that Lina ultimately survives. Between Shades of Gray is a novel that will steal your breath and capture your heart.
  • Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys
❝World War II is drawing to a close in East Prussia, and thousands of refugees are on a desperate trek toward freedom, almost all of them with something to hide. Among them are Joana, Emilia, and Florian, whose paths converge en route to the ship that promises salvation, the Wilhelm Gustloff. Forced by circumstance to unite, the three find their strength, courage, and trust in one another tested with each step closer toward safety.

Just when it seems freedom is within their grasp, tragedy strikes. Not country, nor culture, nor status matter as all ten thousand people aboard must fight for the same thing: survival.❞
